Top 10 must see places and tourist destination points spots in Leh Ladakh : Shanti Stupa – It is a beautiful white domed Buddhist Architecture and was built by Japanese Buddhist monk Gyomyo Nakamura. It has the relics of Buddha at its base. The best time to visit this place is at dawn or dusk. It is located at 4267 meters above sea level. It has a 500 steps climb.

Hemis Monastery – It is an ancient monastery built before 11th century but was rebuilt in 1672. It is the richest and biggest in Laddakh. It houses the largest of all thangka paintings in laddakh, which is presented in proper ceremony in every 12 years, and the next unfurling will take place in 2016.Each year there is a religious annual festival in honor of Guru Rinpoche. This place is also famous for snow leopards.

Hall of Fame Museum – It is under the care of the Indian Army and has a lot of historical information about Laddakh. The museum houses information about Leh’s culture, history of laddakh and information about the wildlife and natural vegetation of laddakh.

Pangong So – The picturesque lake of Pangong is around 150 kms from Leh. It is located at 4350 meters above sea level. The drive to the lake is dramatic and romantic is a must visit. It is also an interesting place to see, as 60% of lake is in Tibet so special permission is to be obtained to visit that area.

Leh Palace – This is a beautiful 19 stories high palace on a hill. It was one of the tallest buildings in the world during olden times. The royal family used to reside here until 19th century. The palace is now being restored by Archaeological Survey of India. It has a museum, which holds a beautiful collection of jewellery, ornaments, ceremonial dresses, and crowns.

Namgyal Tsempo Monastery - It houses three stories high, golden statue of Maitreya Buddha. It was discovered in the 14th century. It provides a breath taking view of the Indus River and the snow-capped peaks of the Zanskar mountain range.

Khardung Pass – It is a height of 5602 meters above sea level. It is around 40 kms from Leh. This is also used to carry military equipment and stuff to the Siachen glacier. It is also a famous destination for adventurers and bikers from all around the world.

Leh Market – This lively and bustling with activity market consists of small Tibetan bazaars and curios shops. These shops have many local articles like embroidered patches, which can be custom made, most famous pashmina shawls, prayer wheels and different silver artifacts and local authentic Leh Food.

Shey Monastery - This was built in the 16th century. This has also been the residence of the royal Tibetan Family. The main attraction here is 12-meter high Gold plated copper statue of Lord Buddha, is the largest of its kind, and extends to three stories of this building.

Gurudwara Sahib – It was built in 1517 and is around 20 kms from Leh. It has the main interesting attraction beside the place of worship being the immovable rock, which is considered to have a negative image of Guru Nanak.
