Top 10 must see places and tourist destination points spots in Gangtok: Nathula – It is situated on the Indo-China border at 14000 feet. Nathula pass is the only place in India from where one can see the Chinese soldiers on patrol. However, photography is strictly banned here. It is one of the most beautiful high altitude places famous for its heavenly views. It was reopened for public in 2006 on Dalai Lama’s Birthday in July.
Tsongmo Lake – It is also known as Chagnu Lake. It is located on a height of 12000 feet on the way to Nathula pass. It is a very picturesque sight.
Kalimpong – It was earlier part of Bhutan and later joined to Indian Territory. It is a very beautiful hill station and has many Buddhist monasteries, churches, and temples. It used to be the trade gateway between Tibet and China. The 27th division of Indian army is located outside Kalimpong.
Rumtek Monastery – It is the seat of Karmapa Lama the third highest in Tibet Buddhist religious system. It is also one of the largest monasteries in Sikkim. It is also called Dharma chakra center. It was built by fourth king of Sikkim under the supervision of the ninth Karmapa. It is situated in beautiful natural surroundings at a height of 5000 feet. Lachung – It is a famous town and is around 125 kms from Gangtok. It is also the capital of Sikkim and is situated at 9000 feet. It has Lepcha and Tibetan residents. It is a famous skiing and trekking spot and is covered with snow-capped mountains all around. Its scenic beauty is breathtaking.
Namchi – It is around 78 kms from Gangtok. It is a beautiful bio diversified place and is famous for its monasteries and scenic beauty. It has the largest statute of Guru Rimpoche who is considered the Saint of Sikkim. It is located at around 1675 meters above sea level. Nacho also means top of the sky and is famous for its beautiful panoramic views of mountains and valleys.
Goecha La – It is a Himalayan mountain pass at 16200 feet in Sikkim. It is also referred as gateway to Kanchenjunga, the third highest mountain in the world. It provides thrilling and must see experience for trekkers. It also serves as a base camp for mountaineers on the way to Kanchenjunga.

Lachen – It is also referred to as Big Pass. It has beautiful rich views of the majestic Himalayan Mountains and is adorned with exotic wildlife. An annual Yak race called Thangku is held here and is pretty famous.
