Top 10 must see places and tourist destination points spots in Kanyakumari: Kanyakumari temple – It is one of the 108 shakti-peetha in Hindu mythology. This temple has been mentioned in ancient scriptures. Each year thousands of people visit it. It is also called Bhagvaty Amman temple.

Pasmanabhapuram Palace – This is made of granite stone. It was the royal residence of kings of Travancore. It was built in the 16th century. It contains many buildings kings court, thaikottaram and Natakashala. It also has a museum containing weapons, curios, and paintings.

Thiruvalluvar Statue – This is a 130 feet tall statue of St. Thiruvalluvar. He was a great Tamil poet. This statue is one of the biggest on Asia. The pedestal is beautifully designed and decorated with 10 elephants facing different directions. 

Vivekananda Rock Memorial – It is located 100 meters from the shore. It is a major tourist attraction in Kanyakumari. This is a small rock island and has 2 main structures, Vivekananda Mandapam and Shri PadaMandapam. This rock island can be reached by a ferryboat. It has a very beautiful architecture. 

Suchindrum– This is a beautiful temple town and is situated 11 kilometers from Kanyakumari. The majestic temples are built in Dravidian style. The most famous feature of these temples is the massive Gopurams. The highest one is 134 feet high. This ancient temple town is visited by thousands of tourist each year. 

Udayagiri Fort – It was rebuilt during 17th century under the supervision of a Belgian general, De Lannoi. It has a big foundry of guns of mortars and cannon balls. In the older days, prisoners captured against Tipu Sultan were confined in this fort. It has a 16 ft long brass gun. Now a bio diversity park has been set over here. Tourist can see deer, ducks, fountains and much variety of trees inside the fort.

Gandhi memorial – This memorial houses the urn, which contains Mahatma Gandhi’s ashes kept for public viewing. It has been made in the form of a Hindu temple. It is designed in such a way that on 2nd October, Gandhi’s birthday the rays of the sun fall exactly at the place where the ashes were kept. 

Tsunami Memorial Park   - This fairly new structure and was built after 2004 in the memory of people who lost their lives in the Indian Ocean earthquake and Tsunami. This earthquake has affected many countries including India, Sri Lanka, Somalia, Thailand, and Maldives. This park is to pay respect to around 2, 80,000 lives that were lost in that disastrous natural calamity. 

St. Xavier Church – It was built in the 16th century and the church was rebuilt and enlarged in 1865 when the shrine of our lady was also renovated and added. The Church was raised to a cathedral in 1930. The annual festival is celebrated during the month of November and December, which lasts for 10 days.

Muttom Beach – This is located around 32 kilometers from Kanyakumari. It is famous for its landscaping and amazing high rocks, which dip into the sea. The sunset and sunrises are not to be missed here. Another tourist attraction is a century old lighthouse built by the Britishers.
