Top 10 must see places and tourist destination points spots in Mysore: Mysore Palace – It is one of the largest palaces in India. It is situated in the center of the city. This was built in the 18th century with wood but was damaged with fire and was reconstructed in 1912. It is made in Gothic Mughal and Rajput style. It is much more beautiful a site to watch at night when the whole place dazzles with 98,000 bulbs.

Mysore Zoo – It is the oldest zoo in India, which was made in the 18th century. It has a vast area of 250 acres of land. This zoo has various exotic species of animals. This zoo has many animals from all around the world residing here. 

Shivanasamudra Waterfalls – It is around 85 kilometers from Mysore. It divides the river Cauvery into 2 waterfalls, which are named Gaganachukki, and Bharachukki falls. It is amongst the top 100 waterfalls of India. Another important aspect is that it has Asia’s first Hydroelectric Power station. 

St. Philomena’s Church – This is also called as St. Joseph’s church which is built in the Gothic style. Earlier this was a small church but Maharaja Krishnaraja Wodeyar Fort laid the foundation of St. Philomena’s Church. It is one of the largest churches in South Asia.

Chamundi Hills – It is located at 1065 meters above sea level. The temple of Chamundeshwari Devi on the top of the hill was first made in the 11th century. It was later renovated in the 18th century. Half way up the hill, there is a majestic 5-meter tall statue of a bull, Nandi that was carved out of a single rock. A thousand steep steps are to be climbed to reach the temple.  

Karanjai Lake – This is located at the foot of Chamundi hills. This is the biggest lake in Karnataka spreading across and area of 90 acres. It has many migratory birds visiting the lake with over 90 species of birds. There is a beautiful park around the lake.  

Brindavan Gardens – It is situated below Krishnaraja Sagar Dam. It was established in the year 1932. It has a very big botanical park and many fountains with many different shapes and sizes, which are musical and colorful. There is a cultural show after sunset.

Mysore Museum – It is also called Folk Lore Museum. It displays the various cultures, arts and crafts from all over Karnataka. It was established in 1968. It is situated in Mysore university campus. It is a cultural hub of music, dance, drama, and literature. There are many galleries here. This also houses a large doll wing and folk life wing, which are used by many farmers, fishermen and other artisans. It also houses many weapons, utensils, and clothing of olden times. 

Lalitha Mahal - It is the second largest palace of Mysore. It was built in the 19th century by Maharaja Krishnaraja for the special stay of viceroy of India. This was inspired by St. Paul’s cathedral of London. This is painted in pure white and is a very beautiful sight. This was converted into a heritage hotel in 1974 and is now run by the Ashok group under ITDC. It was built in renaissance architecture style and is inspired by Italian palazzos.
