Taj Mahal – The eighth wonder of the world stands proudly in the city of Agra. It has a mystical existence on the banks of Yamuna River. It has a great historical heritage since 1638. The Taj Mahal is a tomb that has the body of Mumtaz Mahal, the wife of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. The epic story says that he built this monument as an expression of his love and devotion to her after she passed away. It took a very long time of 22 years and 20,000 workers to create this white amazing marble masterpiece. 


Old City – Central Agra or the heart of the city is also named as the old city. It is a busy, bustling, and thronging market, which has many small alleyways, which houses various shops selling clothes, jewelry, shoes, spices, sweets etc. This is situated behind Jama Masjid. Many traditional artifacts are also found here. This is also called Kinari Bazaar.

Fatehpur Sikri – It is around 30 minutes drive from Agra. This is a deserted city now but it was very much alive and successful capital of the Mughal empire in the 16th century AD. In the olden days, there was an infamous drought, which drove its inhabitants from their homes in 15 years of residing there. 

Agra Fort – It is one of the finest forts of the Mughal Empire in India. It was originally under the Rajput Empire. However, after being captured by the Mughals it was rebuilt by Akbar. He formed his capital here in the 15th century. The fort houses many buildings inside it. There are many mosques, towers, gardens, courtyards, palaces etc. In addition, every evening there is a light and sound laser show, which retells the magnificent history of the fort.

Korai Village – This is a new tourist spot. It is on the way to Fatehpur Sikri. This is a tribal village with many cultural sights to see. In addition, the residents kept dancing bears and earned their income with this in the past. However, they struggled with expenses after this form of livelihood was considered illegal.

Mehtab Bagh – this is an alternative site replicating the Taj setup it can be seen from the riverbank. Mehtabh Bagh means the moonlit gardens. It is a whopping 25 acres of Mughal garden complex and is located directly opposite the Taj. This a must visit spot for its amazing landscape. 

Taj nature walk – It is situated on the Fatehabad road. This is a reserve forest with its lush natural greenery at its best. The Taj’s beauty is increased many folds when viewed in this nature walk and can be seen in different mesmerizing shades. This has many photo points. There is a 9-kilometer walking trail with many visuals of Taj Mahal in different settings. This forest is extremely rich in its flora and fauna. 

Itmad-Ud-Daulah – This is the first tomb, which was made completely out of marble. Before this, all the Mughal buildings were made of red sand stone. It was made under the supervision of Jahangir. This tomb is 21 meters in height. Itmad-Ud-Daulah means pillar of the state. This title was given to the father in law of Jahangir. The tomb is inspired by Persian style. The frescoes and the paintings are very intrigued and beautiful. 

Jama Masjid– It is located exactly opposite the Taj overlooking Agra fort railway station. It was built by Shah Jahan in the 16th century. It is made of red sandstone with white marble decors and has blue walls and ceilings. It is beautifully decorated with paintings, carvings and glazed tiles and stonework. It took 5000 workers to complete this monument. 

Akbar’s tomb – It is built in the suburbs of Agra, Sikandra in the 16th century. Akbar had planned and selected this site for his tomb. This was robbed of its gold, jewels, silver, and carpets by Raja Ram Jat. The tomb building is a four storied pyramid structure with a marble pavilion that has a false tomb. The true tomb like all the others is in the basement. The design is floral, geometric, and calligraphic.
